Reflection Essay 1A difficult experience I have had in my life was moving several times throughout my childhood. My father was in the military which means he would be stationed throughout the U.S and wherever he went, I would have to go too. I was never in the same place for more than 2 years until about 7 years ago, which can be hard on a young kid because that is when many people can make life long friendships. I got through it by keeping in touch with old friends with phones and other ways of communication, and becoming more of an extrovert so that I can make new friends easier. There are other way to get through a challenge like this, but this is just one of the ways. Recently I just came in contact with an old friend that I thought I had lost through my moves, but technology today has made coming in contact with people so much easier. Through this experience I learned that sometimes you have to go through things that you don’t have a say in whether you do them or not, but it’s up to you to figure out how you’re going to deal with it and how it will affect you.

Reflection Essay 2
Opportunities
An educational opportunity that I have recently come across was an internship at the FBI office down in Los Angeles. With this internship came many opportunities: it would look good on college applications, would benefit my community, and could lead to a potential career with the bureau. This helps with college applications because it is an opportunity not many have come across and can stand out when colleges are sifting through thousands of applications. This can benefit my community because I learned many techniques that could keep my community safe and behind the law. I share the information with others and they help everyone stay safe. It also helps me lead to a future career. The internship helps me make connections to people on the inside and if I stay connected with them I would have an easier time receiving a job from the FBI. Another opportunity I have had, which everyone at rbv has too, is the option of AP classes. The classes better prepare you for college and can even help you receive college credit. If it weren’t for these classes, I wouldn’t be as motivated in school to help prepare myself for college. I believe that everyone should grab a hold of every opportunity that they come across because they might not even fully be able to grasp the benefits that one simple thing can have on a person. It can benefit you and the others around you in more ways than one, depending on how you use it.

Were these talents or skills the same a few years ago? What changed? What improved?
I have recently gained my golfing talent due to the fact that I just started a few years ago. I have always had patience and organization but they have greatly improved over the years due to increased maturity that people gain as they grow older. I require my skill or patience every day in many of my classes and at home, and organization when it comes to school work.
Which one of the three talents or skills you listed is the most meaningful or important to you and why? Does the talent come naturally or have you worked hard to develop this skill or talent?
I believe patience is the most meaningful talent because not many people have it and it is a very respectable trait to have. I use my patience everyday as stated above and it can come in very handy when in a difficult or stressful situation. The “talent” comes naturally in a way, but it is just something I have learned from being around my mom for so many years. She is very patient when needed and it has rubbed off on me throughout my life. I also find organization very important in life. I say this because the more you are organized, the easier you can get tasks done. Organized people stay on top of things and know what to do and when to do it. To have both patience and organization is very useful to have in life and everyone should learn how to have at least one to get through their life.

Personal Reflection 4
I express my creative side through the actions that I perform throughout the day. Whether its solving problems or just messing around with friends. There are many times my viewpoint was unique compared to others. I tend to almost always see things differently from my friends. For example, I was planning my birthday party with some friends and they all had the same idea of where it should be and when I should have it but I expressed a completely different idea in which they all ended up liking. My approach was different than everyone else's because they weren’t looking at the larger picture of the day, they only planned things that would work in the mid afternoon, not something that would last all day. There have been several problems where my imagination guided me to the solution because at times I expect to much to happen and when I finally get to my goal, I am disappointed because I didn’t achieve what I wanted. I believe what really sparks my creative side was my parents being really relaxed with me growing up, and just letting me do my own thing with a lot of autonomy. They trusted me a lot and that really allowed me to develop and become the person that I am today. Some parents are very strict and have to have everything done their way without any input from the children, and those kids tend to keep to themselves a lot and don't show a lot of creativeness.

Personal Response 5
I define my identity as someone who cares for others and would put others before the happiness of my own. I don’t always show that trait but if it were to come down to it everyone else comes before me. I am also white and somewhat wealthy and I think people see that as me instead of the person I really am. Race and ethnicity play a major role in this because people think just because I am white, I won’t help them out. This is untrue and I believe white people are judged by other minorities saying we are “better” than everyone else. Factors that influence my identity development are my family and the friends I have made over the years. My family has taught me to be the person that I am today and they continuously influence my actions. My friends influence my identity because they are who I spend most of my time with. They get me to do this that I wouldn’t do by myself and help me break out of my shell. Parents and friends definitely influence everyone’s identity throughout their whole life. I believe my identity runs through the whole family and is just passed on through generations. My parents gave it to me and their parents gave it to them, it just slightly changes as time goes on. I think when you meet someone, you pass a little of yourself on to them and they pass themselves onto you. Many of the people I surround myself with are very similar to me because we pass on who we are to each other. My mother is jewish and I am proud that she is not afraid to show who she is. Along my family line judaism was lost due to the holocaust and we converted to christianity. My mother is attempting to bring it back, and although that just is not who I want to be, I respect her for being who she wants to be. A lot of my roots go back to Italy, and I am very proud of that. My grandma was born in Italy and she moved her before the age of 1. She has passed on the italian heritage to the rest of the family and she has taught me to be proud of who I am. I believe I am unique because my heritage is somewhat mixed. I also think I am unique because of the way I act. I am very outgoing, but at the same time I keep to myself and can be quiet in situations. People around me affect the way I act and I think that is what makes me, me.
